The process of a maid visa has certain requirements and rules that need to be considered. If you follow the right guidelines, you can easily sponsor a maid visa in Dubai in no time.

As the demand for domestic workers, drivers, cooks, maids, etc., increases, the government of UAE is spending around 2 billion on domestic workers. Many families in the country have at least one full-time or part-time maid in their homes. This guide will help you with the whole process of obtaining a maid visa in Dubai, including the documents required, its validity, and how you can renew it. 

How to Sponsor Maid Visa in Dubai? Step-by-Step

Below are the steps for sponsoring a maid or house worker in the UAE.

Step 1 – Opening Sponsor’s File

The first step for a maid visa in Dubai is to determine whether the sponsor has sponsored a worker. If so, you will receive the approval from authorities via text message in 24 hours.

Step 2 – Entry Permit for Dubai Maid Visa

The sponsor can apply for an entry permit for their domestic worker by depositing AED 2000 (available for foreigners). If you need a deposit refund, you’ll need your IBAN. After the approval, you’ll receive it through SMS, and an employment visa will be sent to your email address. (Proceed to step 3)

Inside the UAE

Suppose the worker has canceled visa status or is under visit. After the typing procedure, a notification of approval will be sent through SMS.

Outside UAE

If the worker is outside the UAE and you want the worker to enter the country on an employment or entry visa, you’ll receive an SMS notification of approval after the typing process.

Step 3 – Changing Status for Dubai Maid Visa

The status change is the next step after getting approval for an entry permit inside the country. Complete the residence visa application and submit it before the expiry date mentioned on the change of status document; otherwise, the application becomes invalid. This application is valid for 60 days. You will be notified through email from MOI/GDRFA.

Important Note

Your domestic worker can not leave the country until the residence visa application is stamped. In an emergency, the authorities will cancel the entry permit so they can leave the country. 

Step 4 – Medical Fitness Checkup for Dubai Maid Visa

As per UAE law, domestic workers must undergo a medical fitness test to evaluate their fitness to work before a residence visa is issued. These tests can be done through the government-designated health centers in the UAE. The certificate of medical fitness is valid for three months.

Step 5 – Emirates ID for Dubai Maid Visa

An Emirates ID application is required to get your residence visa approved. If your domestic worker is applying for the first time, they must also complete the biometrics. Biometrics must be completed within 10 days from the time the Emirates ID application is generated.

The validity of this application is,

• For Local Emirati. 2 Years
• Foreigners. 1 Year
• GCC Nationals. 2 Years

Step 6 – Medical Insurance

Dubai’s minimum visa requirements include medical insurance for all domestic workers, including maids, housekeepers, babysitters, cooks, nannies, and caregivers. The policy is issued after a labor contract is signed, a copy of Emirates ID is submitted, and a medical test certificate is submitted. 

Step 7 – MoHRE Employment Contract

According to the new Domestic Workers Law 10/2017, immigration employment contracts for 2017 and 2018 are accepted. The sponsor must print the MoHRE employment contract to apply for a new visa or if the sponsor has an old contract. 

Step 8 – Application for Residency Visa

The final step in getting a residency visa for your domestic worker

is applying for a residency visa. After the application is approved, the authorities will stamp your worker’s passport with a residence visa sticker/stamp. The validity period for this application is as follows,

• For Local Emiratis. 2 years
• Foreigners. 1 year
• GCC Nationals. 2 years

Eligibility to Sponsor a Maid Visa in Dubai

To sponsor a maid visa in Dubai, the sponsor must have an income of AED 5000 with accommodation. Additionally, the sponsor must have a UAE residency visa. The sponsor must own or rent an apartment with at least two rooms.

The eligibility requirements for a sponsoring family are,

• The sponsor of the maid visa must have a monthly income of AED 25000
• If the sponsor is a patient, they must have an income of AED 15000 and a medical certificate. 
• The UAE cabinet must approve the Maid visa sponsor application. 
• The sponsoring party must be a higher-ranking official, such as a consultant for different sectors, legal advisor, or judge.
• Maids or household workers can only be sponsored by the authorities from the countries mentioned by the MoHRE authorities.

Renewal Process of Dubai Maid Visa

If an Employer wants to renew the visa of their maid/household worker in Dubai, they can take advantage of the service provided by the MoHRE. Let’s look at the complete renewal process for a maid visa in Dubai.

Renewal Procedure 

The maid visa renewal procedure includes the following steps,

• Log in to your MoHRE account with a UAE pass or username and password. 
• Print the application for renewal of the employment contract of a domestic worker.
• Apply for a renewal contract through one of the service delivery channels.
• Pay the described federal charges.
• The renewal application will be forwarded electronically to the Federal Authority for Identity, Customs & Ports Security, and Citizenship to verify compliance.
• If there are any mistakes or missing information, the authorities will inform the applicant to complete it.
• The relevant authorities will convey the approval or rejection of the renewal application via SMS and email.

Documents Required for Dubai Maid Visa Renewal

Submit the following documents for the domestic worker renewal process.

• A colored photograph of a domestic worker/maid
• Photocopy of worker’s passport
• Employer’s original ID card
• Copy of medical insurance
• Employment contract for the maid/domestic worker (signed by both parties)
• In Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the Employer must provide medical insurance to their domestic workers.
• Photocopy of previous Emirates ID of the maid/domestic worker. (from both sides)

Terms & Conditions for Renewal of Maid’s Employment Contract 

The main terms and conditions set by the authorities are,

• The Employer’s passport must be authentic
• Domestic workers must be inside the UAE
• Medical insurance for domestic workers
• Renewal of Emirates ID for the domestic worker
• The domestic worker must have an authentic medical fitness examination certificate. 
• The worker’s passport must be valid for at least three months
• The time required for the renewal process is one working day, as mentioned by the MoHRE.

• The age of housemaid/worker must be over 18
• The maid/worker must not hold any other work permit
• They must pass the medical fitness test required by the authorities.
